Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 March, 2005... BIGGER & EVEN BETTER!

Following the stunning success of our inaugural 'Up and Running' weekend last year we are pleased to announce the event will again be held on 5 and 6 March, 2005, comprising an expanded format on both days.

Warburton Martyrs
Warburton Martyrs, to be held on Saturday afternoon, will comprise a series of novelty and competitive races up Martyr Road – one of the steepest residential streets in the world – and back down again (350m each way).

Modelled on Dunedin’s infamous 'Baldwin Street Gutbuster', the 'Martyrs' is sure to test every competitor.

Appropriately, our principal partner for this event is Martyrs Bus Service, one of Warburton's oldest and most respected businesses.

Prizes: Open Event – Return trip to Dunedin, New Zealand, for the next 'Gutbuster' for fastest male and female (other prizes to be announced); Warburton Martyrs perpetual Schools Shield (a teams event for Upper Yarra Primary Schools only) – a perpetual shield trophy; Bucket Handicap – voucher; other events – TBA.

Races start 4.30pm (Registrations from 3.00pm).
Entry Fees: Refer to program.

To add to the fun we're running a community market from 3pm 'til dusk near the bottom of Martyr Road. Enjoy a range of wonderful food, find a bargain, soak up the atmosphere and help the Tsunami Appeal at the same time.

Warburton Community Bank Fun Run
The crisp autumn air of Sunday morning will see competitors head east from downtown Warburton on our Fun Run, proudly partnered by Warburton Community Bank.

Most of the flat to undulating 10 kilometre course will be on sealed roads while the last few kilometres will be on gravel paths.

With the route loosely following the meandering Yarra River, for most of the race competitors will be able to take in tranquil local scenery and flashes of the river through dappled shade.

Prizes: Luxury accommodation packages plus $500 cash for fastest male and female; random draw among all finishers for extra prizes provided by our generous sponsors.

The organising committee extends its thanks to Charnwood Cottages for their generous support.

Run starts 9.30am (Registrations from 7am).

Entry: $20 adults; $5 children under 16; $40 for families.

Trophies will be awarded in the following categories:

Masters: 35+ to 70+ in five-year intervals (male and female); Juniors: under 12, under 16 and under 18 (male and female).

About Warburton …

Over the past few years the township of Warburton, 80km east of Melbourne, has developed a deserved reputation for its beautiful green environment and leisurely lifestyle.

Warburton offers unsurpassed access to the Yarra River by means of an excellent network of walking tracks and bridges – in fact, the whole town can be traversed without touching bitumen – and delightful picnic spots,

while the township itself is blessed with a range of fine restaurants and fascinating shops.

With its huge range of active community groups, the district continues to work together to achieve some amazing feats – for example, establishing one of the first Community Banks in Australia.
